Thank you so much for this video. I just recently got my Hottop 2k+, after upgrading from a Freshroast SR800, and honestly roasting my first three batches alongside this video running in the background has really helped me feel out the machine without wasting any coffee :) I look forward to eventually shooting a series of videos of my own using this (and maybe other) machine(s) and I look forward to seeing where my coffee journey leads.

Hey are you following Mill City's recommendation and using full batch size with each roast or do you follow other roaster recommendations of 50-60% batch size? Cheers I've been making my way through a lot of your content. Great for those of us who roast on 2kg and smaller machines

I've always been curious about altitude when it comes to coffees from regions like Kona and Jamaica given their location from the equator and coffees grown between 1000-1500mabsl vs. much higher altitudes that are closer to the equator. JBM and Kona are pretty dense (much of their coffee is washed but still).. so altitude isn't always a factor right?

Cost doesnt make your roaster better, I think technologically Aillio roaster is superior in the way it heats the drum. plus, it is very efficient and no crap gas to deal with.

I've tasted over 700 different coffees, I've logged 692 of them. From Dragonfly Elida 98, JBC Pink Bourbon 98, and countless 95pt coffees from other notable roasters (Goodboy Bob, Mostra, Rabbit hole, BirdRock,...), I really have to tell you, Berried Treasure is one of the top 10 coffees I've tasted. You're doing a great job roasting. You just need a break getting out there. Wishing you the best!

You should get a Roest. The IKAWA machines are toys. If it doesn’t auto-detect First Crack or let you select it manually, it’s not a serious roaster.

Great video. I am so inline with your experiences to date. Coffee is awesome and super frustrating. I went from just wanting better coffee first myself and my dad. We were in the final years of his life and i am full time caregiver for both my elderly parents. My dad and i became super close in those last years. I would roast just to see the look when you take that first sip of phenomenal coffee, (you know the look). That’s why I roasted. 100% for him. He passed in 2021 and i almost stopped. But then people started to ask for coffee. And it’s grown from there.

One thing to consider…if you are moving into a place that falls under the jurisdiction a HOA, make sure you read the rules carefully. They tend to have about as much power as your local government and are practically untouchable if you are not in compliance with their rules. Pretty standard for them to have rules regarding running a business from your residence and what you can/cannot do to the outside of your property (shed, etc.). Good luck!

Very exciting news! I can attest to the quality of the Tuff Shed products. They include structural upgrades like hurricane straps. You can also insulate and finish off the interior at any time. Venting through the roof is really simple. Maybe a bit scary but it's not rocket science either. Good luck with the move!

Do you have an exhaust fan for the excess smoke? I did my first roast in the kitchen and i had alot of smoke. Its possible I burnt the beans. Just noticing that everyone roasting and do not see any smoke...

No exhaust. Which is why typically stuck to light roasts. But eventually there will be visible smoke. I started in the kitchen too, but ended up going in the garage with the door wide open. Not good to breathe that in.
